Our Approach

We believe the best approach for portfolio management starts with a thorough review of your goals. The most common mistake investors make is overestimating their ability to time the market or to improve the long-term performance of their investments with short-term changes. Our role is to work with you to design, review, update and implement a long-term investment plan that fits you, making it easier to invest consistently throughout the market cycle.

OUR PROCESS

Understand your needs

Implement, Review, Repeat.png

The first step we take when we meet new clients is to listen. We want to know what your needs are before we develop a strategy that will help you achieve your investment objectives

Develop a plan

Once we get to know more about you, we will recommend a plan that is built around your needs. The plan can change as your needs change, but is should be designed to keep your focus on a solid long-term strategy that can help you succeed during turbulent markets.

Implement, Review, Repeat

The most difficult part of the investment process is the journey itself. How you react in changing market conditions depends not just on your starting point but on how you react as market conditions or your needs change to keep your plan aligned with your long-term objectives.

MAKING YOUR portfolio ‘yours’

Our investment approach is built around creating a portfolio that you will be comfortable with holding for the long-term. A portfolio that you do not completely understand, or that you are not comfortable with is not likely to meet your goals and objectives. For all of our clients, this means that we come up with the right combination of investments to take full advantage of diversification while remaining within your comfort zone in terms of the volatility you might need to weather in the future.

For some of our clients, we have added both financial and non-financial considerations that we believe will help financial objectives. This could include designing the investment strategy to take account of environmental, social and governance (ESG) data that provides information about a company’s future value that doesn’t appear in its financial reports today. Other non-financial considerations that we have experience helping clients to take into account are values-based investment, where ethical beliefs are incorporated into the investment policy in accordance with a client’s preference.

The process that we undertake when we move away from our core portfolios is to evaluate whether we have the expertise and resources internally to develop a solution that will meet your expectations. If we don’t, we look outside of our four walls to find a solution that fits with our philosophy and can deliver the best option to meet your needs.
